He Can Handle Whatever the Wrestle Is

Faith

There's truth we must stand on firmly, daily.

And today, this was mine: He can handle it.

Because let's be honest — when we believe He can't, we come to certain conclusions that aren't life-giving. We pull back. We go quiet. We decide, somewhere in the space between the wrestle and the word, that maybe God isn't big enough for this particular struggle. Maybe this question is too heavy, too embarrassing, too far outside what faith is supposed to look like.

But that thought — that quiet, creeping thought that He can't handle it — is rarely examined. It just operates. It shapes how we pray. Whether we do.

I'm learning to identify it.

The Wrestle Is Usually a Lie

When I sat with women in different seasons and stages of life — each one struggling, each one quietly holding something heavy — the Holy Spirit clarified something I hadn't quite put language to before.

There are really only three things we wrestle with:

What He said. What He did. Who He is.

That's it. When we strip away the layers, the confusion, the "I don't even know how to explain it" — it usually comes down to one of those three. His word feels hard to receive. A promise hasn't yet come to pass. Or we're not entirely sure He is who He says He is.

And every one of those wrestles is real. Every one of them deserves to be looked at honestly, not pushed down or spiritually bypassed.

But here's what the Holy Spirit showed me: every one of those wrestles has an address. And it leads straight back to Him.

"When I am afraid, I put my trust in you." Psalm 56:3 NIV

The psalm doesn't say: when I am afraid, I resolve the fear first and then I trust. It says: in the middle of the fear, I put my trust. The trust and the wrestle coexist. They have to.

He Hears It

God is not surprised by our struggle with what He says.

Read that again, slowly.

He is not surprised. He is not disappointed that you're still holding that question. He is not pulling back from you in frustration because the faith came hard this week. He is not waiting for you to get it together before He draws close.

"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." Hebrews 4:15–16 NIV

He sees our humanity. And He loves every part of us.

He hears the cry of His children and He responds. He sees the fear and He reassures. He doesn't stand at a distance, unmoved, waiting for us to figure out the right theological framework before He shows up. He meets us in the wrestle.

He Invites It

This is the part that undoes me.

God doesn't just tolerate the wrestle. He invites it.

He invites us to trust and seek Him — not so we can graduate past the questions, but so that we might come to know Him. As trustworthy. As faithful. As just. There is no other way to know those things about someone than to have walked through something hard with them and watched how they showed up.

The wrestle is where we discover who He actually is — not who we assumed He was, not what we were told, but who He has proven Himself to be in the specific terrain of our specific struggle.

That's not a detour from faith. That is faith, doing exactly what it was designed to do.

So Let It Be What It Is

If you are wrestling today — with what He said, what He did, or who He is — you are not outside the bounds of what He can handle.

You are, in fact, exactly where He can meet you.

Identify the wrestle. Name it honestly. Bring it to Him without cleaning it up first. He isn't waiting on the polished version of your questions. He is waiting on you.

And He can handle whatever it is you bring.

He hears. He sees. He reassures. He loves.

That is not a promise that depends on the wrestle being small enough. It is a promise that holds no matter how big it gets.

That is the Whole Loaf.
